Looking to convert a van and searching for second hand deals. Need advice on which GVW is ok for a campervan conversion. Is 2800kg enough or should I go for 3000 or 3200? Also what engine size is the minimum? Did anyone buy an L2, is it worth it?
Thanks, Jordan
Hi Jordan,
in general, unless you are planning to fit a massive battery bank, or huge bed, even the 2700 vans will carry enough for a camper conversion. That said, the bigger load rating you have, the more you have to play with.
Engine wise, the only engines available are the 2.2 in pre-facelift, or 2.0 post facelift. They do come in different tunes, from 100ps to 180ps. I’d suggest at least the 125ps
Hope it helps,
Ben
Got a 170 new shape beautiful engine and 40.3 with pop top on a run, pulls like a train
We have a 6 speed auto 2.0L 130hp that we converted ourselves and there is plenty of power. I weighed our van fully loaded and it was around 2800kg. I would choose at least a 3000kg one to be on the safe side but as Ben said, you might get away with less depending on your needs.
Great, thanks guys, very useful info!
